Social Impact

The Social Impact Committee leverages MUSE's position on campus and the talent of its members to promote social impact on-campus, in the local Philadelphia area, and beyond. We utilize the passion and resources available through MUSE and Penn to give back to the broader community. The projects that Social Impact takes on range from consulting and spearheading awareness campaigns to fundraising and volunteering to support integral initiatives. In past years, we have also collaborated with other core facets of our campus like United by Blue and Penn Leads the Vote to further multiply our impact.

 Past Works

Netter Center Partnership

SPRING 2021

The Wharton School partnered with the Netter Center, Penn’s center focused on community engagement, to connect Wharton clubs with local Philadelphia organizations to work on pro-bono projects. The goal of this Wharton Civic Engagement Initiative is to empower students to utilize their skills in accounting, financial services, data analytics, marketing, business plan development, and/or general consulting and help solve issues facing a community organization or non-profit. While MUSE began to collaborate on this initiative this past fall, we hope to form a permanent partnership with the Netter Center.

SMALL BUSINESS INITIATIVE

FALL 2020 and SPRING 2021

MUSE Social Impact’s Small Business Initiative is the committee’s first, established pro-bono consulting program to help small businesses and organizations better market their products and services. They provided marketing consulting and collaborated with Penn Appétit, another on-campus organization, on a social media campaign to highlight black-owned and woman-owned small businesses that were affected by the pandemic. Social Impact also partnered with restaurants across the country such as Nimbus Coffee (Los Angeles, CA), Coffee & Cornbread (Montclair, NJ), and Bower Cafe (Philadelphia, PA), thereby expanding the committee’s reach beyond the scope of Philadelphia, reaching to help businesses on the West Coast as well.

BETHESDA PROJECT

November 2020

MUSE's Social Impact committee worked to address the impacts of COVID-19 on the homeless population of Philadelphia. They worked with the Bethesda Project to donate essential supplies such as clothing, disinfecting wipes/hand sanitizer, hand warmers, etc. Understanding that the virtual format has made bonding more difficult throughout many clubs, Social Impact hosted a MUSE-wide fundraising competition with dare bingo boards! The committee ended up raising over $300 for this cause!
